I've seen the arguments, over and over; all over the place on DA, and everywhere in real life to boot.
I'm tired of having people throw at me that it says in the bible that homosexuality is wrong.
I have read the bible, and I know the passage constantly quoted by anti-homosexual proponents, and I have to remind you all that the Holy Bible does not say that homosexuality is wrong, period. There are far more things in the bible that we do not pay attention to.
If you want to follow the word of 'god' as seen through thousands of generations of translations, then you should Gather together and isolate the woman who baptized her month old child in the church, because she has violated Leviticus 12:2.

"The LORD said to Moses,
'Say to the israelites;
"A woman who becomes pregnant
and gives birth to a son will be
ceremonially unclean for seven
days, just as she is unclean during
her monthly period...
Then the woman
must wait thirty-three days to
be purified from her bleeding.
She must not touch anything
sacred or go to the sanctuary until
the days of her purification are
over. If she gives birth to a
Daughter, for two weeks the
woman shall be unclean, as during
her period, then she must
wait sixty-six days to be purified
from her bleeding.'"

So tell me, Are you willing to beat down that woman who just baptized her daughter at the age of one and a half months old? No?
How about pushing out those who have eaten fat, or a rare steak? Because here, in Leviticus 7:22, Consuming fats and blood, in any form is a sin, punishable by isolation in a community.

"'Do not
eat any of the fat of cattle,
sheep, or goats...
Anyone who eats the fat
of an animal from which an offering
by fire may be made to the
LORD must be cut off from his
people.'"

If you don't plan to read the bible- ALL of the bible- and follow the words of the bible- ALL of those words, not just those that will help your cause- you have no right to tell me that I am sinning;
or that my sexuality is wrong according to the bible, and that I will go to hell.

"On the proposition that Leviticus 18:22 prohibits homosexuality and god's law must be obeyed. Believers ought not to force their laws on people of different faiths or people of no faith at all. Marriage is a CIVIL right. If you don't want gay people to marry in your church, Okay; but you can't say they can't be married in City Hall because of YOUR religious beliefs."

But, but you don't understand! Jesus came and abolished the old ways. Though they can still pick their all time favorites from Lev. and use it when they feel like it. Also: They like to pick and choose what is to be taken literally and not literally. Hilarity ensues.
:icontripletrules:
For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. 8But God found fault with the people and said: 'The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord. This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.' By calling this covenant 'new,' he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear." (Hebrews 11:7-13)

"By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear." (Hebrews 8:13)

Did you see that? Let me show you again.

"By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear." (Hebrews 8:13)

And again.

"By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear." (Hebrews 8:13)

And again.

And once more just to be safe.

"By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear." (Hebrews 8:13)

Understand? Thanks.

Sincerely,
A Christian who has read the Bible.

I love the quote by Julian Bond. It's exactly how I feel. The world isn't solely Christian. Freedom of religion, so get your religion out of government.

And this is coming from a Christian. Who's studied the bible.

Gay rights. Save the Arts. Equality for all.

I believe in music, love, and life.
:iconbrave-toastless-loki:
And how, precisely, does that make following only select parts of Laviticus correct?

I don't follow Leviticus.

I follow Romans 1:24-27 and 1 Corinthians 6:9.
:iconbrave-toastless-loki:
So you prove my point- you are following select points (or, rather, sections) of the bible.

:icontripletrules:
You act as though this is a victory for you, and thus a loss for me.

But you fail to understand that your "point" proves nothing.

The Bible includes both the Mosaic Covenant and the New Covenant (which Christ was the bringer of).

If I don't follow the Mosaic Covenant (which only applies to the Jews), then I have proven your point by only following a "select portion" of the Bible.

But in proving your point, I have lost nothing, for it would be impossible for me to follow the entire Bible.

"All who rely on observing the law are under a curse" (Galatians 3:10)

FOR THE RECORD, I am not a "cherry-picking" Christian...I do not read the New Testament and "cherry-pick" which verses I like and which ones I don't.

I follow the ENTIRE Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Apostles.

Do not attempt to twist my faith into something deserving of scorn, for in reality it is you and you alone who deserves scorn for her foolish and sinful beliefs.

My beliefs are pleasing to the Lord. Yours are severely lacking in that respect.
:iconbrave-toastless-loki:
I'm not saying I've won a victory, or that you have garnered a loss; I'm just saying that I have a point- and I do. If you would actually take the time to think about what it is I'm saying here- that I find it hypocritical that many 'Christians' and 'followers' of the Bible are only selectively following the words, then you would know that I could really care less weather anyone agrees with me or not.
I merely made a valid observation.
YOU chose to respond in a rather unflattering way.
Again, 'let he without sin cast the first stone'.
You sitting on a high horse and telling me that I am 'severely lacking' for my 'foolish and sinful beliefs' is only showing just how completely intolerant you are, especially since the original teachings of 'Christ and Hos Apostles' (as you call them) was to accept and love ALL, not just those who believe what you do.
Just pointing out the wonderful contradictions you have; feel free to keep up this pointless assault on me, but be warned that I couldn't give a flying fuck. :)

I did take the time to think about what you're saying. It's Biblically unsound.

Christians are not hypocritical for not following the Mosaic Covenant. Indeed if they were to follow the Mosaic Covenant, then they would be hypocrites.

Your observation was hardly valid, my dear. This is because your observation makes the assertion that Christians are "hypocritical" for not following the Mosaic Covenant.

Simply observing that Christians don't follow the entire Bible is perfectly fine.

The fallacy begins when you attempt to label Christians as hypocrites for this.

>>>>Again, 'let he without sin cast the first stone'.<<<<
Improper application of Bible verse.

Christians are often accused of "judging" whenever they speak out against a sinful activity. However, that is not the meaning of the Scripture verses that state, "Do not judge." There is a righteous kind of judgment we are supposed to exercise-with careful discernment (John 7:24).

When Jesus told us not to judge (Matthew 7:1), He was telling us not to judge HYPOCRITICALLY. In Matthew 7:2-5, Jesus warns against judging someone else for his sin when you yourself are sinning even worse. That is the kind of judging Jesus commanded us not to do.

If a believer sees someone else sinning, it is his Christian duty to lovingly and respectfully confront the person with his sin (Matthew 18:15-17). This is not judging, but rather pointing out the truth in hope (and with the ultimate goal) of bringing repentance in the other person (James 5:20).

We are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). We are to proclaim what God's Word says about sin. 2 Timothy 4:2 instructs us, "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage with great patience and careful instruction."

We are to "judge" sin, but always with the goal of presenting the solution for sin and its consequences-the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6).

>>>>You sitting on a high horse<<<<
~STRAWMAN~
I never attempted to set myself higher than you. Romans 3:23 says ALL MEN have sinned. We are all equal.

>>>>and telling me that I am 'severely lacking'<<<<
I said your beliefs were severely lacking in the category of pleasing the Lord.

I never said YOU were severely lacking.

>>>>for my 'foolish and sinful beliefs' is only showing just how completely intolerant you are,<<<<
I am intolerant of sinfulness and Biblical ignorance. Why else would I be trying to teach you right now?

>>>>especially since the original teachings of 'Christ and Hos Apostles' (as you call them) was to accept and love ALL,<<<<
~STRAWMAN~
Did I ever say I didn't love you? Did I?

Can I not have an argument with someone without hating them? Grow a thicker skin.

>>>>Just pointing out the wonderful contradictions you have;<<<<
I'd love to see them sometime.

>>>>feel free to keep up this pointless assault on me,<<<<
I love how you use the word "assault".

lol I'm not assaulting you. This is a discussion. Once again, grow a thicker skin.

>>>>but be warned that I couldn't give a flying fuck.<<<<
Surprise surprise.

Oh and see Ephesians 4:29 for why you shouldn't swear.
