Really, they do!  No matter how many times you deny it, and vote against Gay Rights, and pretend it is a matter of choice, gay people are everywhere, my friends.  Being gay isn’t as simple as walking down the health and beauty aisle, reading a few boxes of hair dye to see if maybe this box holds just the right formula, and choosing for yourself the color you will show off as your own.  Welcome to the real world.  It isn’t coloured by Nice ‘n Easy.

*sigh* The grand majority of the people reading this are already open minded individuals.  A decent percentage were tolerant before I decided to come along and say something.  But if there’s just one bitter, pasty skinhead out there who reads my words and pauses before participating in his next gay bashing session, well then my effort is worth it, isn’t it?

Back to the real world.  I’m addressing you, that lone bigot who dares to stubbornly cling to archaic ideas of social classifications.  Look deep into your memories.  Have you ever lived with a lie that has threatened to eat you from the inside out?  Did you ever cheat on a lover, steal from a friend or spread rumours about someone who trusted you?  How well did you sleep?  How often did you daydream about confessing and clearing your conscience?  You were a shell of your former self.  You made sure you were isolated enough to keep your privacy, and you suffered under the guilt.  That is what you, the hateful one, are condemning fellow human beings to, and who are you to pass such judgment and serve such cruel and unusual punishment?  What deity tapped you on the shoulder and handed you that kind of power?

Gay people exist, and they are your neighbours and coworkers.  They are what they were born, and they should be given every opportunity to find love, just like the hetero set.  Love between two consenting adults should be celebrated publicly in the form of a wedding, if that couple so chooses.  Who is it hurting?  Does a ninja kill a kitten every time a gay couple gets married?  Seriously, I am baffled.  

And don’t give me the same old religious arguments.  In my country we uphold freedom of religion, which includes Atheism.  On top of that, Christianity preaches the credo “Love the sinner, hate the sin”.  Tolerant and accepting are the only reasonable ways to be if religion is the root of your concern.

“What about the spread of AIDS and the horror of child molestation?  Aren’t homosexuals responsible for both?” you ask.  Research from The University of California at Davis has revealed that less than one percent of child molestation cases were perpetrated by gays or lesbians.  The same doctor, Gregory Herek, Ph.D., has made great efforts towards eliminating the fear that gay and bisexual men are predominantly responsible for the spread of HIV and AIDS.  Prejudices not rooted in fact are dangerous.  They promote fear and segregation, a backward step for society, in my opinion.

Now I speak to the open minded ones out there.  Let’s move forward, and leave no man behind.  Be proud and willing examples of compassion.  Show the confused ones the logic of acceptance, and maybe they will question their current path of fear and hatred and foolish violence.  It IS worth the effort, but don't just take my word for it.
