We're living through history. And that is amazing, if you think about it. Your fathers and grandfathers fought in Viet Nam and WWII, your mothers and grandmothers lived through the Cold War, and you get to witness gay marriage becoming legal. That'll be a fun story to tell the kids.

I signed into AOL tonight, and this was one of the main stories. I personally am so excited that California is the second state to allow gay marriage, and that New York has just announced their state will recognize gay marriages.

I was all happy until I got to the bottom of the article, where people can comment.

There's people there quoting the Bible, condemning people to hell, one even saying that gays don't care about children, and another claiming gays can't read.
WTF.

First off, I would like to assure you that I want kids when I get older, and one of my favorite pasttimes is curling up with a good book.

Now to the Christian stuff.

There are plenty of "Christians" out there quoting your Bible. Step back and think, will you? Jesus commanded us to love everybody. He reached out to untouchable people in his society, and hardly anyone shared his views. And the only place God actually condemns homosexuality is in the same book He condemns eating pork, and I'm pretty sure most of you eat bacon.

Then there's also the story of Sodom, the one that most "Christians" keep in their back pocket to whip out whenever homosexuality comes up in conversation. However, that story is not about homosexuality. It's about condemning inhosbitability and rape. Go reread it.

And that doesn't even matter. This country is not a theocracy. Just because you believe your religion says that it's wrong doesn't mean everyone's religion says it's wrong.

Then again, as a queer Christian, I'm guessing I'm slightly biased.

On a lighter note, this post almost made me pee my pants:

I don't mean for this to offend anyone. But I do not appreciate people of my own faith quoting my own Scripture to me condemning me to Hell for something I never chose to be.
